Dark moves first. Tap a piece, then a square.

How to play mini checkers

  1. The setup. Six pieces each on the dark squares of the two nearest rows. Dark moves first.
  2. Moving. Pieces move one square diagonally forwards onto an empty dark square.
  3. Capturing. Jump diagonally over an enemy piece onto the empty square behind it, and that piece is taken.
  4. Captures are forced. If you can jump, you must — and you keep jumping with the same piece for as long as you can.
  5. Kings. Reach the far row and your piece is crowned. Kings move and jump backwards too. Being crowned ends the move.
  6. Winning. Take every enemy piece, or leave the other side with no legal move. 25 moves each without a capture or crowning is a draw.

Tips

Keep your back row filled as long as you can — it stops the other side from crowning. Trade pieces when you're ahead, and look for a sacrifice that sets up a double jump.

Questions

What is mini checkers?

Checkers on a 6×6 board with six pieces a side. Standard rules, about five minutes a game.

Do I have to capture?

Yes. When a jump is available it's the only kind of move you can make, and a multi-jump must be finished.

How does a piece become a king?

Reach the far row. Kings move and capture diagonally in all four directions. Crowning ends that move.

How strong is the fox?

On Easy it looks a few moves ahead and makes the odd mistake. On Hard it searches deep in under a second — on a board this small it rarely blunders.

Is it free?

Yes — no sign-up, no ads, no server. The fox thinks on your own device.
